Quartz crucibles have good thermal stability and have been widely used in black and non-ferrous metallurgy. The use of immersion type nozzles for casting in steel casting operations is a key measure to solve the longitudinal cracking of continuous cast steel slabs. Due to the harsh conditions of immersion type nozzles compared to general nozzles, the head of the immersion type nozzle needs to be inserted into the molten steel and protective slag to keep the inside and outside of the nozzle in a high-temperature heating state, while the other part of the nozzle is exposed to the air.
The material requirements for immersion nozzles include good thermal stability, resistance to steel erosion, and resistance to slag erosion. Some commonly used refractory materials can no longer meet this requirement, while fused silica crucible is called one of the preferred materials for submerged nozzle by virtue of its unique characteristics.
